You Shu was filled with remorse. If he had known that his master would inquire about his movements these days, he wouldn’t have stayed here to eat. However, he can’t lie to his master, so he could only answer honestly. 

Half an hour later, he wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and left the Qianqing Palace. He went home and sat by the window, sometimes laughing and giggling, sometimes scratching his ears and cheeks, his expression very tangled.

Lord Yama appeared at this moment and asked in a deep voice, “What’s wrong?”

You Shu had long been accustomed to the other party’s unexpected temptations, and pretended not to hear him at all. Now he has to find a way to stay in the capital, so that he can have a chance to see his master. If he is sent back, he will not be able to come back for at least three to five years. You Shu’s slightly chubby cheeks were pulled out of shape, and teardrops hung on his trembling eyelashes, but he still pretended to be fine.

Lord Yama was dumbfounded by his reaction, and lifting his other hand, he grabbed both sides of his cheeks together, “Don’t pretend to be foolish, I have always known that you have yin and yang eyes.”

Sure enough, he knows! You Shu couldn’t tell whether he was more nervous and fearful or more relieved. He quickly patted the back of the other party’s hand and said vaguely, “Let go, can I finally stop pretending now?”

“Did you enter the palace today?” Lord Yama pinched his soft cheek once more before letting go. The two of them have already cultivated a lot of tacit understanding on their journey, and even if they just pierce through the fact that they can see each other, they still get along very easily and casually.

You Shu didn’t answer but asked, “Has the emperor established a concubine?” For a seventh-grade sesame official, the emperor’s harem was as far away as a myth and legend. He had not deliberately inquired about it before, and others also wouldn’t casually discuss it.

“Why do you ask this? Did you see Emperor Xuanguang today? How did you feel?” Lord Yama’s eyes flashed slightly, inadvertently revealing a trace of nervousness.

However, because of his worries, You Shu didn’t notice it and stubbornly asked, “Has the Emperor ever gotten married?”

“What does it have to do with you whether he gets married or not?”

You Shu lowered his head, and a bright blush slowly spread from his ears to the neck. He subconsciously grabbed the jade pendant at his waist with both hands, repeatedly tugging at the silk ribbon beneath it.  

This behaviour of acting like a little daughter-in-law was so abnormal that Lord Yama understood it instantly and said in disbelief, “Could it be that you… have some fancy thoughts about Emperor Xuanguang?”

So, is this why he frequently lost his composure today? Now that he thought about it, his performance was totally in line with a young man who is eager to please his sweetheart, showing a bit of embarrassment and eagerness. 

However, this person only met Emperor Xuanguang once, while he himself accompanied the other party through thousands of rivers and mountains. Even if you liked someone, you should like me first!

Although he knew that Emperor Xuanguang and he are the same person, Lord Yama still couldn’t calm down. He asked, “What do you like about him? His power, his status, or his appearance? Isn’t it too superficial?” Of course, what surprised him the most was the fact that Magistrate Xiao Zhao actually liked men, which made him worry in vain for a long time. If he had about known this, he would’ve already taken action when he was in Suichang County.

You Shu quickly defended, “Of course not. Like is just like, you don’t need a reason to like someone, right?”

“You have met him only once, right? So how could you fall in love with him? I have accompanied you all the way through mountains and rivers. How come I don’t see you falling in love with me?” Lord Yama didn’t know who he was angry with. In short, he felt very unhappy.

“Isn’t it true that one glance lasts for ten thousand years?” You Shu hesitated for a moment and said, “Thank you for your protection and companionship along the way. I am also very happy…” 

Before he finished speaking, he was shocked to realise that this person’s status in his heart was… It’s actually almost equal to that of the master. Even when he reunited with his master, he would involuntarily think of this person and eagerly yearn for his embrace and comfort, even if the embrace was illusory and the comfort was wordless.

What’s wrong with him? How can he be so restless and indecisive? You Shu seemed to have been struck by lightning, and his mouth opened wide, unable to say anything; he blinked hard, wanting to cry without tears, his expression looked embarrassed and guilty.

Lord Yama’s scorching gaze was fixed at him, so how could he not detect his abnormality? He revealed it with one sentence, “Could it be that… you also like me?” 

At this moment, he really didn’t know what to say. This little thing not only likes himself in the mortal world, but also likes himself in the underworld. Should he praise him for his vision, or scold him for being greedy? But no matter what, his sour mood has been completely diluted, feeling a bit angry and funny.

You Shu would never admit that he is a half-hearted person. He blushed and waved his hands, “You are my friend, which is different.” 

As soon as he finished speaking, he immediately convinced himself and nodded firmly, “That’s right, it is friendship. You are my first friend, so it’s very important.”

Then why do you look so guilty? However, Lord Yama didn’t point it out and followed his words, “Oh, so that’s how it is. In other words, you admit that your love for Emperor Xuanguang is similar to the love between a man and a woman?”

You Shu nodded, looking like a lovesick young man. His brain didn’t seem to be very bright in front of this man or his master, and he always gets trapped into a cage with just a few words.

“You are a minister and he is the ruler, so what can you possibly do if you like him?” Lord Yama continued to test.

“Can’t I pursue him slowly? What if I move his heart one day?” You Shu’s gaze was firm. Until the last moment, he will never give up. Even if the master marries someone else in this lifetime, he can still silently like him in his heart and look at it from a distance. Isn’t this also a kind of happiness?

“Do you want to pursue him?” Lord Yama’s tone slightly rose. If the concealment was removed, You Shu would find that his current expression revealed three parts of pleasure, three parts of evil interest, three parts of anticipation, and one part of deep smile. Lord of the Underworld, who is accustomed to being aloof, has never been passionately pursued by anyone before, and thinking about it makes his heart itch and unbearable.

“Hmm.” You Shu muttered to himself, “I have to find a way to stay in the capital now, so that I can have a chance.” As for what to do in the future, he can only take one step at a time and let nature take its course.

“Don’t worry, you will achieve your wish.” Lord Yama rubbed his black hair and added, “By the way, I forgot to tell you that Emperor Xuanguang hasn’t married yet and has no concubines. You still have a chance.”

The huge stone in his heart suddenly fell to the ground, and You Shu showed a relieved expression, then leaned back on the chair and patted his chest repeatedly.

Lord Yama could barely suppress the joy in his heart. The low laughter had already bounced back and forth in his throat several times before being forcefully swallowed. If he continues to talk to County Magistrate Xiao Zhao, he will definitely lose his composure on the spot.  

He has never met such a person that looks smart but is actually stupid. Sometimes he is upright and sometimes he is cunning. He looks different from one moment to another, but he is lovable in every aspect. In this way, he wanted to tease this little thing even more to see how he would pursue himself.

Putting his fist to his lips to cover up his smile, Lord Yama said in a hoarse voice, “There are still many official matters to be dealt with in the underworld, so I will leave first.”

Before You Shu could stop him, the tall figure of the man disappeared before his eyes. He looked around in a daze and found that it was already dark, and the room was dimly lit, appearing very cold and lonely. 

He quickly pulled out the matchbox in the drawer and lit the candle. The candle flame was swayed by the wind, and the light also flickered, causing him to panic for a moment. Will the person who used to be with him all night come back in the future? Would the other party feel disgusted with himself because he likes men?

He wanted to find a lampshade to surround the candle. But as soon as he stood up, he heard that ancestor report from outside, “Master, the whole family of three from the second house is here and they are lying outside the gate now. Do you want to see them?”

You Shu, who was looking for something to do to stop himself from thinking wildly, immediately waved his hand, “Let them in.”
