Chapter 74 (Part 2) – There’s A Beauty

Home/ There’s A Beauty / Chapter 74 (Part 2)

“I say, young man, don’t always run to see it. You’ll scare away the fish.” The coachman had no choice but to dissuade him.

You Shu had no choice but to sit down and wait, rubbing his belly from time to time. When Lord Yama saw his greedy appearance, he chuckled inwardly.

He originally thought of using some magic to drive the fish into the net bag, but on second thought, he changed his mind. Using magic is effortless, but it is also silent. How would County Magistrate Xiao Zhao know that he is the one who helped him?

Doing good deeds without leaving a name is obviously not his style. The reason why he came to escort Magistrate Xiao Zhao to the capital is because he wants to get the other party’s gratitude, love, and his closeness. Thinking of this, he rolled up his trousers and went down to the river to chase the fish.

You Shu still couldn’t figure out why the man suddenly jumped down in the river. When he saw the other party bent down to drive the fish over, You Shu realised that the man was actually preparing lunch for himself. His heart was filled with emotion and he deeply moved. Because in his opinion, the other party didn’t know that he could see him. In other words, he was helping him silently without expecting any repayment.

How could there be such a good person in the world? You Shu thought foolishly, then rolled his big eyes, his expression very pleased.

Ghosts and Gods don’t observe their surroundings with their eyes, but rely on divine consciousness. Therefore, You Shu thought he could reveal his true emotions by turning his back to the other party, but in reality, his every move was under the surveillance of the other party. Seeing him looking so happy, Lord Yama worked even harder and quickly caught all the fattest fish in the river.

A quarter of an hour later, when the coachman went to pull the fishing net, it was already too full to hold, and every one of the fish was jumping alive, making a crisp and loud crackling sound when they fell down, which was very pleasing.

“Good guy, even those people who catch fishes for a living don’t get as much as we did!” The coachman exclaimed happily.

“Put the rest of them in the carriage and sell them in the next town to earn some travel expenses for yourself.” You Shu picked out a big fish and scraped its scales with a dagger. He couldn’t thank the real hero and felt very ashamed in his heart.

The coachman, who knew nothing about it, waved his hands quickly and said, “We caught this fish together, and we have to share the money if we sell it. If County Magistrate Xiao Zhao knew that we Suichang people take advantage of other people when we travel far away, he would be ashamed of us.”

How come everything can be related to me? You Shu felt helpless and could only nod. Seeing this, Lord Yama smiled inwardly.

In the end, two people and one ghost got together to grill the fishes, and the atmosphere was very harmonious.

At this moment, several gorgeous carriages drove in not far away. A middle-aged man with a large belly led a graceful and beautiful looking woman, who was helped by a maid and staggered to the shore, preparing to take a break. A group of servants followed in a mighty procession, some laying mats, some lighting fires, some holding umbrellas to shade from the sun, and others taking out food boxes and arranging them one by one, making the scene look very magnificent.

The coachman looked sideways frequently, obviously criticising the woman’s behaviour of not avoiding men and women, while You Shu turned a blind eye. After cleaning all the fish, he picked the fattest one and slowly grilled it on the fire. His cooking skills are exceptional, and he also carries various seasonings with him. He sprinkled a little cumin on it and a strong aroma filled the atmosphere.

The middle-aged man stretched out his neck to take a look, then sniffed deeply, and shouted, “Hey, when your fish is grilled, bring it over to me. I will give you a tael of silver!”

Buying a fish for one tael of silver is undoubtedly a sky-high price. If it was an ordinary person, he would’ve agreed easily, but You Shu waved his hand and refused, “It’s not for sale!”

“Then how much silver do you want?” The middle-aged man thought that the other party wanted to extort him, so he couldn’t help but show a contemptuous expression. The woman also rolled her eyes and sneered.

“The reason why I survived the natural disaster is thanks to Lord Yama’s kindness and mercy. I am going to sacrifice this fish to him, so you can’t eat it. If you want to eat it, you can grill it yourself.” You Shu didn’t want to cause trouble, so he asked the coachman to send a live fish over. Can’t he just express gratitude to his invisible friend and find an excuse to send him a sacrifice?

Yes, he has unilaterally determined that Lord Yama is his friend. He had never made friends, and no one left any trace in his life except his parents and master. He had never experienced what friendship is, so there is some freshness and a bit of anticipation in his heart.

When the middle-aged man heard that he was going to burn it for the dead, his face immediately turned black. He waved his hands and said, “Go, go, go, I don’t want any live fish either! It’s bad luck!”

The woman said coquettishly, “Master, let’s go a little further, it’s so scary here.”

A group of servants quickly gathered up their things and moved to a distant place to sit. When the surroundings finally became quiet, the coachman raised his thumb and said in a low voice, “Young man, you are indeed a scholar. Your brain is so quick that you scared that wealthy landlord away with just a few words!”

You Shu didn’t say anything and continued to grill the fish seriously.

Lord Yama was in a happy mood and wanted to press the Magistrate Xiao Zhao into his arms and give him a good rub, but he had to restrain himself for the time being. He originally wanted to uncover the fact that he had yin and yang eyes, but now it seems that it is not necessary. This game of “you don’t know that I know you can see me” is so fresh and interesting that he gradually became addicted to it, never getting tired of it at all.

You Shu grilled the fish, followed the ancient ritual of worship, and then threw it into the fire. The flames licked the fish and made a creaking sound, but it had already burned to ashes in half a quarter of an hour.

The coachman was stunned and murmured, “Are you really dedicating it to the Lord of the Underworld? The fire was not very big, so why did it burn out in the blink of an eye? Could it be that the other party could really receive it?”

Whether he could receive it or not, You Shu knew with a glance from the corner of his eye. He pursed his lips, looking relaxed, but he was quite happy in his heart.

He saw the tall man holding a grilled fish skewered with a wooden stick, not knowing where to start. The other party took a bite of the fish belly, chewed it slowly and swallowed, then leaned over and whispered, “Thank you.”

A magnetic voice swirled in You Shu’s cochlea, then penetrated into every pore, making his hands and feet soft and his heart trembling. Cannot nod, cannot agree, cannot tilt your lips, cannot bend your eyes! He repeatedly warned himself not to show any flaws, and finally breathed a sigh of relief without leaving any trace.

Lord Yama stared straight at him, how could he not notice the crimson tips of his ears, the goosebumps all over his neck, as well as his eyes that were brighter and moister than usual. This look was obviously not due to fear, but shyness. It is indeed very fun to tease Magistrate Xiao Zhao.

Lord Yama smiled secretly as he ate, feeling more and more that this trip was worth it.

After two groups of people finished their rest, they set off one after another to rush to the next town for the night. Although the landlord’s carriage was faster than the ox cart, it had more boxes and heavy burdens, and gradually fell behind You Shu’s carriage.

You Shu leaned against the wall of the carriage, flipping through a travel journal. Lord Yama leaned beside him, his chin resting on You Shu’s shoulder, reading together.

He can transform from reality to nothing, and then from nothing to reality, so he doesn’t have much weight, it just makes people feel a bit chilly. But You Shu had already regarded him as a close friend and quickly accepted it with ease, feeling quite fresh and interesting in his heart.

He deliberately slowed down his reading speed, fearing that the other person wouldn’t be able to finish. When he wanted to turn the page, he used his fingertips to lift the next page, and only flipped it over when he was sure that the other party had finished reading it, while quietly squeezing a small dimple.

Where is Lord Yama reading a book? He is simply staring at County Magistrate Xiao Zhao. The other party thinks he is doing it very covertly, but in fact, his every move, every frown, and every smile is under his divine monitoring. The more he got along with Magistrate Xiao Zhao, the harder it became for him to control himself. He could even take out almost every moment and relive it repeatedly, feeling happy in his heart.

How could there be such an interesting person in the world? He often thought this and couldn’t help laughing.

While the two of them were pretending, but secretly enjoying themselves, the ox cart drove into a dense forest, and then they left the boundary of Lishui Prefecture. The coachman showed a nervous expression.

The border between the state capitals is often a place where bandits run rampant. The officials on both sides do not want to manage it, and pushing around has led to the emergence of many bandit dens.

Just when the coachman wanted to remind his employer to pay attention to safety, there was a sound of footsteps in the woods, and then many burly men with bows, arrows, and machetes suddenly appeared on the trees, in the haystacks, and on both sides of the road, shouting, “These tree is planted by us… this road is ours. If you want to save your life, leave the money! Get off the carriage, this is robbery!”

The wealthy landlord’s carriages in the back were also surrounded and they stuck their heads out to beg for mercy.

You Shu had already hidden the extra silver in the hollowed-out wheel of the cart. There was nothing in the package except a few taels of broken silver and a few pieces of clothing. He saw Lord Yama standing on the shaft of the carriage staring at those bandits, with a black light appearing on his fingertips, and then he realised that the other party had followed him all the way to escort him to the capital.

Thinking about it, although the new emperor has begun to rectify the government, the villagers who have fallen into trouble in the past have not been recruited yet. If one does not hire bodyguards along the way, it could lead to financial losses and injuries, and in severe cases, they may even lose their lives. You Shu felt very grateful in his heart, his eyes slightly became moist, and he looked quite pitiful.

The bandit leader looked up and down, and saw that he was wearing ordinary clothes and his body was emaciated and thin. He knew that he was a poor man and wanted to let him go.

“Boss, let’s do a search first. Some landlords and noblemen also like to pretend to be poor in order to avoid robbery.” A bandit dressed as a scholar came over to remind him.

“Search, let’s search together!” The bandit leader thought it was reasonable and ordered everyone to unload everything on the carriage to inspect it.

The landlord’s side was naturally filled with gold, silver, jewellery, silk, and satins, but there was nothing else except a small package and two boxes of old books on You Shu’s side. Lord Yama was already standing beside him, holding him in his arms with one hand, while a black light flickering on the fingertips of the other hand, just in case something unexpected happened.

The bandit dressed as a scholar felt that You Shu had a handsome appearance, outstanding temperament, and he is definitely not from an ordinary family, so he personally checked his luggage and found a volume of official documents, a road guide, an official seal, and an official robe. He took a closer look and his expression suddenly changed, “Quick, quick, let him go! We actually tried to rob County Magistrate Xiao Zhao. What a sin we’ve committed!”
