Chapter 171 – Devil

Home/ Devil / Chapter 171

The small room is green.

The sun outside has not completely set yet, and there is still light shining in. If it were Ji Huan and Grandpa, they would probably not turn on the lights in this situation. Even with a stable income, both the grandfather and grandson are still relatively frugal. But it’s a completely different case in Hei Dan’s room.

As soon as it gets dark, the lights in Hei Dan’s small room will be turned on.

Ji Huan believes that this will be good for the child’s eyes, while Grandpa thinks it will make Hei Dan less afraid (?).

However, reading a small picture book at night is not scary… After all, Hei Dan himself is the most terrifying presence in the room: Whew~

That day, after discussing at the dinner table, both Ji Huan and Grandpa took the matter of letting Hei Dan be independent to their hearts. However, letting such a young child sleep alone…Ji Huan felt it was still a bit early. So, after Ah Jin left, he acquiesced to Hei Dan’s request of sleeping together every night.

However, before going to bed every day, the place where Hei Dan played with his uncle was changed to the small green room next door. Grandpa also specially made a door sign with a small piece of wood and wrote Hei Dan’s name on it.

Hei Dan now knows his own name. After being taught his name several times, Hei Dan knew that the room was his own.

Since it’s his own room, then… even if he is afraid, he still has to go in.

>_<

The toys were scattered on the small bed, the pants with holes were placed in the green wardrobe, and the small picture book was also placed on the bookshelf beside the bed. Finally, Ji Huan transferred the messy “treasures” under the pillow.

Of course, when it comes to the most precious things, Hei Dan still insists on putting them under his uncle’s pillow, but some of the more ordinary things have already moved here.

When Ji Huan entered the room, Hei Dan was sitting on the small bed looking at something, and Guagua was sitting next to him. Both the little demon and Guagua have bellies that are a bit too round for their bodies, slightly protruding.

At this moment, both Hei Dan and Guagua had their heads lowered.

The sunlight that has not yet fallen below the horizon sprinkled into the room, and the two small figures on the bed, one tall and one short, looked very harmonious.

That’s just the back view.

“Quack!” Hearing Ji Huan’s voice, the first one to turn around was Guagua. It bounced away from Hei Dan and sat not far from Ji Huan on the bed. Guagua tilted its head slightly to look at Ji Huan.

Guagua’s mouth was open, revealing a few tiny teeth inside.

Do frogs have teeth?

This question has been on Ji Huan’s mind ever since he discovered Guagua’s teeth, but it’s no use thinking too much.

Ji Huan stretched out his hand and touched Guagua’s head, and Guagua jumped onto his shoulder.

Almost weightless.

Strange to say, except for Ji Huan’s family, it seems that no one can see Guagua, not even Naji and Abu who often came to the house.

Xiao Hui knew about it because he played with Hei Dan all afternoon.

Sitting on his shoulder was a strange doll with a seemingly non-existent presence. Ignoring the sharp teeth exposed by his ears, Ji Huan shifted his attention to another figure on the bed.

“Hei Dan.” Ji Huan called out again.

As he got closer, he could clearly see that the little demon on the bed seemed to have sped up his movements. Previously, Ji Huan thought he was reading a book, but when he got closer, he realized that what the little demon put on the bed was not a book, but an old newspaper. He is not reading newspapers, but making origami with old newspapers.

This is a new trick that grandpa taught Hei Dan these days. Although Grandpa is not good at reading, he is very skilled in other things. The grandpa who used to stumble while reading stories to his great-grandson every day has now started to teach Hei Dan how to make origami!

The current progress of Hei Dan’s origami class is roughly at the beginner level 1: He is learning how to fold origami airplanes.

Having heard his uncle’s footsteps a long time ago, Hei Dan accelerated his folding speed, his little paws moving non-stop.

Seeing him sweating profusely as he worked hard, Ji Huan also slowed down his steps appropriately, leaving him as much time as possible, and then, finally—

Hei Dan finished the paper aeroplane in his hand when his uncle stopped beside him. He turned around happily, holding a crooked paper aeroplane in his little paws.

The little demon shouted: “Jiji!”(machine)

Ji Huan: =-=

It’s okay if you call it “feifei”(airplane), but why do you have to call it “jiji”? And it’s still in Chinese – Ji Huan was a little helpless.

“Well, Hei Dan learned how to make origami planes so quickly. It’s really impressive.” Ji Huan’s compliment was also very calm, but Hei Dan still accepted it happily.

Opening his little paws, he asked his uncle for a hug as a reward.

Ji Huan picked him up.

“Jiji! Jiji!” The little demon was still talking, his voice soft and ethereal. Well… it could also be described as erratic.

Hei Dan has always been a quiet baby since he was a child. Now that he has started to learn how to speak, and coupled with the stable environment at home, Hei Dan finally became a bit more talkative.

He is now particularly enthusiastic about talking to his uncle, and… to his grandpa as well.

However, Hei Dan’s way of talking is to repeat what he has learned. For grandpa who doesn’t like to learn, this content is a bit explosive, so the result of the chat between grandfather and grandson is: Hei Dan has more to say, but Grandpa always falls asleep, snoring loudly.

So Hei Dan prefers to talk to his uncle.

“Hmm, this is an aeroplane. It is a means of transportation that allows people to fly in the sky at a very fast speed, much faster than the train.” Ji Huan chatted with Hei Dan and thought for a moment, adding a note he saw when he was in elementary school: “The aeroplane was invented in the early 20th century by a pair of American brothers, um… the Wright brothers.”

It has to be said that Ji Huan’s memory is quite good.

Hei Dan stared with his white-ringed eyes, and his little red mouth opened into an “O” shape. He listened attentively, although… he didn’t understand what the Wright Brothers were at all.

Even if he understands it, it’s useless. Hei Dan will probably never return to Bade Town again in his lifetime, and he won’t have the opportunity to take a plane. Although he can speak a little Chinese now, besides himself, Grandpa, and Ah Jin, no one else understands this language.

However, looking at the serious appearance of the little demon, Ji Huan continued to speak seriously: “But I haven’t taken a plane either. In fact, I have only ridden a train a few times. By the way, Hei Dan has also taken a train.”

Hei Dan, who was still in his swaddling clothes, had ridden the train with Ji Huan.

The baby in his arms was like a ball of black mist, and the journey filled with anxiety and suppressed grief was Ji Huan’s first memory of trains.

“Let’s try and see if Hei Dan’s plane can fly.” No longer thinking about it, Ji Huan picked Hei Dan up from the bed. He pushed open the window and took the paper plane from Hei Dan’s little paws.

He let out a breath at the head of the plane← Actually, Ji Huan didn’t know why he did this, but in his memory, it seemed that everyone did it when they were playing with paper planes when they were kids. His body subconsciously performed this action as he taught Hei Dan to play.

With a breath, Ji Huan gently threw the paper plane with his right hand, and then it gently flew out.

Not to mention, although Hei Dan’s folded paper airplane looked like a crooked mess, it actually flew pretty well.

With a throw from Ji Huan, it actually flew a long way.

It flew directly out of their yard.

“Wow——” His eyes were shining, and Hei Dan’s mouth opened even wider.

The little arm with the gold bracelet wrapped tightly around Ji Huan’s neck, and the little demon looked into the distance excitedly.

The afterglow of the setting sun fell on his cheek, and Ji Huan stared at him quietly, staring at the left cheek of the little demon.

On the originally dark skin, there suddenly appeared some extra skin.

Have you ever seen a wall that hadn’t been repaired for a long time? Pieces of wall skin starts to fall off, as if they are not firmly attached to the wall.

Hei Dan’s face now has some skin like that of a wall.

With the left eye as the center, the skin gradually cracked, covering a small area. It was only a small circle around the eye, without even connecting to the forehead or reaching the hairline. It was just such a small abrupt piece.

The pale skin stuck to Hei Dan’s small black face like plaster.

The contrast between black and white was very distinct, which looked much more terrifying than the visual effect of the wall paint.

Ji Huan stretched out his hand and gently touched the small piece of skin. Hei Dan squinted his eyes, then rubbed his big head in the palm of his uncle’s hand, and the small piece of skin was also rubbed.

Ji Huan’s gaze was fixed on the small piece of skin in his palm. He stretched out two fingers to pinch it between his fingers, then he pinched it again and again.

The touch really feels like the human skin.

This happened two days ago, when Hei Dan grew his first piece of “skin”. That day, Hei Dan was very excited and kept facing his uncle with the left side of his face. At first, Ji Huan didn’t understand what the little demon was so excited about.

At that moment, Grandpa noticed a small patch of white on Hei Dan’s face. Thinking it was some “dirty stuff” on his face, he tore it off, and the “dirty stuff” fell off with a little force.

At that time, the little demon dropped two golden beans, and Ji Huan had to coax him for a while. Then when he went home the next day, Hei Dan mysteriously crawled over again and turned his left cheek towards his uncle, at this moment, he didn’t let grandpa touch his little face.

Discovering the same piece of “dirty stuff” sticking in the same place, Ji Huan observed it more cautiously for a while, and then he realized: it was actually a small piece of skin!

Hei Dan has grown some skin.

After reporting this discovery to Grandpa, neither him nor his grandson had any experience in this situation, so they simply let Hei Dan grow slowly on its own.

However, the small cloak was put on for him, not because they were afraid it would scare others, but because they were afraid that the skin may get damaged by the sun.

The newly grown skin should be very delicate, so Ji Huan paid special attention to washing Hei Dan’s gray cloak these days.

Hei Dan with a small piece of skin looked even more terrifying, but he didn’t notice it himself. Looking at the broken hand mirror every day, the little demon thought he looked extremely beautiful.

Then, when Hei Dan grew his skin, Guagua also grew teeth.

Guagua can do a lot of things now, such as going to the vegetable garden to get rid of insects, help Grandpa carry things, and even help Hei Dan pick up paper airplanes.

After Hei Dan’s paper plane flew out of the yard, Guagua jumped down from Ji Huan’s shoulders, kicked hard on the window eaves, and jumped out of the yard. When it came back, Guagua’s mouth was holding the Hei Dan’s paper airplane.

When Ji Huan picked up the paper plane and placed it on the table, the last ray of sunlight finally disappeared from the window.

“Let’s go and eat.” Continuing to hold Hei Dan in his arms, Ji Huan closed the window and walked out the door.

But Hei Dan still stared out the window without blinking. He suddenly waved his little paws, leaned his little head on his uncle’s arms, and let his uncle carry him out.

Guagua followed Ji Huan’s feet, hopping and jumping, and went to the kitchen.
