By then, not only will this king punish your enemies severely, but will also reward you five hundred years of longevity, along with endless glory and wealth.” This is the biggest temptation for ordinary people, even if the current ruler of the country stands here, he may not be able to resist.

Upon closer inspection, You Shu noticed that the character was right above the eye of the formation. 

He remained unmoved and said, “Well, I noticed that there are inconsistencies in your words. There’s no other evidence, so I will say two things: First, I was once taken to the underworld for interrogation. At that time, the fourth prison master said that all corrupt officials in the world escaped from the animal realm, and I thought, how could the animals from the animal realm cross the path and be reincarnated here? Doesn’t Lord Yama care about it? It’s useless to get rid of them after they have already caused harm to countless people, right?”

He continued, “Secondly, when I entered the city as a living soul, I was asked for silver. The captain of the guard said, ‘Lord of the Underworld has changed a long time ago. If you still can’t get rid of your bad habit of taking bribes, I will sue you, peel off your skin, put you in a frying pan, and throw you into the Hungry Ghost Path.’ From this, I can infer two things: First, during your reign, the underworld officials were as corrupt as the mortal world; second, the six realms of reincarnation have long been in chaos under your management, to the point where humans are no longer humans and ghosts are no longer ghosts.”

He slowly stopped and looked straight at the fierce ghost, “The reason why floods are raging and droughts are rampant in the mortal world is not because of the current Lord of the Underworld, but because of the beasts you’ve allowed to reincarnate. If you treat humans as animals and animals as humans, you deserve to be sealed forever.”

He took a few steps back and nodded slightly, “I’m sorry, please continue to stay here. It’s time for me to leave. Destiny is always there, and only virtue can help. No matter who the person in the hall is, as long as he has virtue, he can definitely survive.” After saying that, he walked out of the palace.

The ghost never expected this man to be so sharp and upright, and he quickly shouted, “Wait a minute! If you let me out, I will give you a thousand years of longevity, plus a high official position with a generous salary, and even the status of an emperor!”

You Shu walked even faster, “If you say things like this, it means that you are trying to lure people with benefits. For a ghost like you, it’s better not to be the King of the Underworld, otherwise the officials under your rule will become like you. The underworld controls life and death, so instead of giving more money, just let people have a good rebirth. No matter whether someone was an animal or a demon before his death, what should be done with the dead soul who did good and accumulated virtue? Good does not have good retribution, evil does not have evil endings, then what is the difference between mortal world and hell? If I let you go, I will never escape the blame!”

“Damn it, what I hate most is the honest officials like you. I don’t know what you are pretending to be in your mind! But I will remember you. If I can go out one day, I will definitely send you in turns to the Shura path, the Hungry Ghost path, and animal path to be tortured!” The fierce ghost shouted angrily.

You Shu turned a deaf ear and quickly ran towards the palace door, but unexpectedly bumped into a tall man with a mask on his face. The man’s chest was very cold and stiff, but also extremely broad and strong. He stretched his arms around You Shu’s slender waist and warned in a deep voice, “Slow down, be careful not to fall.”

You Shu looked up and couldn’t help but be overjoyed, “You’re here!”

When the man saw You Shu clutching his arm tightly with bright eyes and the corners of his lips slightly raised, he couldn’t help but feel happy in his heart, but he didn’t show it. He helped You Shu stand firm and nodded, “This King is here to save you.”

“Master Zhao’s heart is indeed like a mirror and wasn’t deceived by this culprit.” The fourth prison master stepped forward and arched his hand.

After the old subordinates of the former King of the Underworld took You Shu away, many ghosts from Suichang rushed to the Underworld Hall to inquire about the lawsuit of the County Magistrate Xiao Zhao. 

Only then did the prison masters realize that a wisp of soul had entered the underworld and it was still the highly admired official by their master, so they immediately came to the rescue.  

Just now they were really worried about County Magistrate Xiao Zhao. If he was bewitched by the former King of the Underworld Lord and really tried to break the formation, they didn’t know what would happen to him. Fortunately, there is no falsehood in his reputation. As rumored, he is extremely smart, knowledgeable and upright. He can distinguish between humans and ghosts at a glance.

You Shu was about to answer when he saw Lord Yama pointing at his buttocks and asking coldly, “Have you been tortured?”

Looking back, he realized that the prison clothes were stained with blood, and his eyes could not help but turn slightly red. In the last few days, he devoted himself to relocating the victims, but how could he have foreseen that someone would frame him behind his back? It is too difficult to be an official in the Dayong Kingdom, and it is even harder to be a good official. Thinking of the hardships he suffered these days, he looked even more aggrieved.

“Don’t worry, this king will uphold justice for you!” The man touched You Shu’s head, then grabbed his wrist and strode out.

The cold temperature and that slow yet intimate touch made You Shu feel inexplicably familiar. Something flashed through his mind, but he couldn’t catch it and had to follow the man step by step. Arriving at the Underworld Hall, a ghost messenger had already brought all the people involved to the hall and knelt down one by one.

“Sit here.” The man pointed to the chair to his left with a thick cushion.

You Shu didn’t dare to refuse and slowly sat down. Feeling the unbearable pain, he twisted his buttocks. 

Suddenly, the man pulled him to his side, reached out and kneaded him, and when You Shu jumped up in surprise, he quickly let go, “Alright, just sit back and relax.”

Ah, it’s really good! This Lord Yama is indeed a good god! You Shu praised the man in his heart, his dark eyes exuding a sense of reverence.  

The man looked at him deeply, then slapped the gavel and shouted, “Everyone in the hall, report your name by yourself.”

There were hundreds of people detained in the Underworld Hall, including Prefect Wang, county officials, witnesses, imperial envoys, and others who had joined forces to falsely accuse You Shu, as well as accomplices who were killed by them in order to erase the evidence. 

With the living souls confronting the dead ghosts, along with the presence of Lord Yama and the twenty-four prison masters, everyone was frightened and immediately confessed their crimes without any interrogation.

It turned out that the imperial envoy already knew that You Shu was unjustly accused, and also knew that the silver had long been divided up by Prefect Wang and the others. He also knew that the true leader of the bandits was actually one of Prefect Wang’s subordinates, who colluded with officials and bandits to harm the people.

When he learned that the new emperor intended to purge the government, the idea of pushing all the crimes to You Shu’s head came to his mind. Anyways, who asked Zhao Youshu to change his ways and take the righteous path?

After receiving half of the disaster silver from Prefect Wang, a total of five hundred thousand taels, the imperial envoy ate his conscience. Not only did he help forge the criminal evidence, but he also planned to use his privileges to execute the person first and report later. Even if the superiors sent someone afterwards to review the case, it would be too difficult to overturn the case without any evidence.

After listening to the confession up to this point, You Shu was so angry that he almost broke his silver tooth and his eyes widened, trying his best to express his anger.  

However, once he pursed his lips, the small dimples on his cheeks became apparent. Not only did he have no sense of deterrence, but he actually looked very pitiful and cute.

The man was still listening attentively, but after glancing at You Shu, he began to lose his composure and slowly turned his head towards the other party, admiring silently.

“Master, the charges against everyone have been verified, please make a decision.” After the interrogation, seeing that there was no movement in the hall for a long time, the prison master reported it again. 

You Shu also looked over with confusion.

The man came back to his senses, and slowly raised his head as he sat upright. He pulled out a ledger from the table, and said while writing, “Wang Xiangcai, original lifespan–68, now reduced to–44. After his death, he will go to Stone Mill Hell to serve his sentence of one thousand years, and after the sentence is completed, he will enter the Shura path; Hao Zuosi, original lifespan– 75, now reduced to–46. After his death, he will go to the Volcano hell to serve his sentence of eight hundred years, and after the sentence is completed, he will enter the Hungry Ghost Path…”

Prefect Wang happens to be forty-four this year, and the imperial envoy is forty-six, which means that they originally had more than twenty years left to live, but due to their evil deeds, they’ve cut off their remaining lifespan. Not only that, after death, they will also have to enter the Shura Path and the Hungry Ghost Path separately, and suffer the pain of endless reincarnation.

The two of them became frightened, and started crying for their father and mother in the hall, kowtowing incessantly. The other accomplices also begged loudly for mercy, tears streaming down their faces.

Seeing that everyone who had harmed him received retribution, You Shu finally felt relieved and turned his head to look at Lord Yama with an adoring and eager gaze. Although this ghost crawled out of the prison of the underworld, he could distinguish between good and evil better than all gods and Buddhas in the heavens. It is no exaggeration to say that he is now the embodiment of justice and the messenger of love in You Shu’s heart.

The man enjoyed You Shu’s gaze filled with admiration, and his eyes became warm, but the words he spoke were even more cruel, “Take them down, skin them who need to be skinned, dig out the eyes and tongues if they need to be, flog those who need to be flogged, but…. be careful not to kill them. They still need to go through the judgment in the mortal world.”

The twenty-four prison masters agreed in unison. Breaking up the soul and sewing it up again, the pain would be enough for them to reminisce for eternity.
